Bringing the forms into a different orientation and allowing them to interact in new ways, this series is inspired by The Buddha of Medicine at the Met in NYC. I was fortunate enough to see it several years ago and it made a profound impact one me. I was initially unsure what I was looking at, there were multiple characters all seeming to be smaller forms of the central character. Later learning about the Bodhisattvas, and their journey on the path to Buddha-hood, I created similar compositions with various characters of scale and importance all building a larger composition.

The same themes of possessions and consumerism are at play here but I’m also thinking about the process of how a belief system is constructed and how a culture is evolved from burying or resurfacing fragments of previous systems. Layers and systems are put down, then removed and then rebuilt and reconfigured.
